Valvatida – Majority of Commonly Seen Sea Stars

The order of Valvatida contains about 14 families, 165 genera and 695 species. You can find them in the majority of coastal regions, shallow water and abyssal depths, worldwide. The main characteristic of Valvatida is the obvious marginal ossicles, which are brick-like plates lining the arms,1,2,3,4
